Bensalah received in Beijing by Chinese Premier

Speaker of the Council of the Nation Abdelkader Bensalah was received Friday in Beijing by Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang, a statement of the Council said.

The talks between the two parties focused on the ways to strengthen the bilateral relations and on the regional and international issues of common interest, the same source added.

On that occasion, Bensalah voiced Algeria’s willingness and availability to broaden the partnership and cooperation between the two countries and implement the comprehensive strategic partnership agreement, the five-year strategic programme, signed in 2014 and the agreements signed during Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal visit to China, in last April.

Bensalah noted that “the bilateral relations have reached a remarkable level that reflects the mutual trust, deep friendship and sincere cooperation,” adding that “the leaders of both countries are determined to move forward towards promoting the development of cooperation in all fields.”

The Upper House Speaker reaffirmed that Algeria supports Chinese President, Xi Jinping’s initiative concerning the construction of the economic corridor of the Silk Road and Maritime Silk Road of the 21st century. He stressed in this regard that Algeria was working with the Chinese party for the success of this project, under the Chinese-Arab Cooperation Forum and the China-Africa Economic Forum.

Regarding the coordination and cooperation on regional and international issues, Bensalah stressed “the convergence of positions” between Algeria and China on the regional and international issues of mutual interest, particularly in terms of compliance with UN principles, the establishment of a world order based on the peaceful settlement of conflicts and the non-interference in the internal affairs of countries.

Bensalah, reiterated the invitation by President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika to his Chinese counterpart to pay an official visit to Algeria as well as the invitation of Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal to his counterpart Li Keqiang for a visit to Algeria in order to “implement the agreements.”

For his part, the Chinese Premier expressed his thanks to Bensalah for having attended the ceremonies commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory over fascism and the end of World War II, as a representative of President Bouteflika.

The participation of Bensalah in these ceremonies reflected the “traditional friendship and political trust existing between the two countries
